life's lessons

hello world! :)

its only been a week since i started working but it feels like a month. i guess the hours stretch out longer in the night with nothing much to do, haha. so, working at a backpackers' hostel now. working the graveyard shift. and omg its been really fun! :) i've met deustchlaners, indians, pakistani, filipinos, koreans, americans, aussies, englishmen, indonesians so far. brazilians coming soon! ;D

lesson #1: laugh at yourself
of course i've had my share of mistakes. felt quite stupid a few times.. i'm not the most street-smart, quick-minded person around so stumbled on things that seem like "common-sense" to people. hah. but i've learnt to laugh it off, you know. say "hur hur" to yourself. because its ok to make mistakes, nothing is perfect. sometimes we set such an impossible benchmark for ourselves. and when we fail, we kick ourselves. LET LIVE.

lesson #2: learn to smile
i also have to do frontdesk cum customer relations type of work, handling guests' enquiries, check-in, check-out, chit chat with bored guests, blabla. again, i'm not the most friendly person, in fact quite the opposite. but i've learnt to smile, meet people's eyes, and not be afraid of that. :) and when you are sincere and genuine with your service, it gets reciprocated, and it feels good. because we are made for interaction. a nod and smile acknowledges your presence in a faceless crowd. meeting another person's eyes makes you feel important and loved. and there's nothing to be apologetic about because thats how we were made. made to love and be loved. :)

its been great so far. hope it gets better! i just love the idea of meeting people form all over the world. if i had the chance, i would be like one of them too, travelling on a shoestring, exploring the world out there. i have a number of interesting stories stocked up now.. hahah! XD and i hear at least 5 different accents everyday! AND i have direct bus 57 to work and back home that only takes 20minutes max! thank God for making me come across this job, its like almost the perfect job, made just for me :)

holidays are AWESOMEE!
